Safefind is an NFC-powered assistance platform that helps neurodiverse individuals and their carers share important information in emergencies. When we say "we", "us", or "Safefind" in this policy, we mean the Safefind service and its operators.
We collect the following types of data:
Account information
Email address used to sign in via magic link. We do not collect passwords.
Profile data
Information you choose to add to profiles: names, photos, medical conditions, medications, emergency contacts, help instructions, and communication grid settings. This data is entered by you as the carer and is only shared when someone scans the NFC tag or QR code.
Scan event data
When someone scans an NFC tag, we record the time, an anonymised IP address, and browser type. If the scanner voluntarily shares their GPS location, we record that too and pass it to the profile's emergency contacts.
Emergency contact details
Names, phone numbers, and email addresses of emergency contacts you add. These are used solely to send scan alerts via SMS, email, or WhatsApp when a tag is scanned.
We use your data to provide the Safefind service: displaying profile information to helpers who scan a tag, sending scan alerts to emergency contacts, and showing scan history and analytics in your dashboard. We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with third parties except as needed to deliver alerts (via Twilio for SMS/WhatsApp and SendGrid for email).
When someone scans a Safefind tag, they are asked whether they would like to share their location. This is entirely voluntary — the browser requests permission and the scanner can decline. If they share their location, it is sent to the profile's emergency contacts via a Google Maps link. Location data is stored in the scan event record so carers can see where scans occurred. We do not track the location of carers or profile subjects.
Your data is stored securely on Supabase (hosted on AWS) with row-level security policies ensuring each family can only access their own data. Session tokens expire automatically (default 30 minutes, configurable by the carer). All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We use anonymised IP addresses and do not store cookies on the scanner's device.
Safefind may store sensitive health information including medical conditions, diagnoses, and medications. This data is only entered by authorised carers and is only visible during an active scan session. Carers can control whether medical information is shown to helpers via the "Show Medical Info" toggle in profile settings. We treat all health data with the highest level of care in compliance with UK GDPR requirements for special category data.
Safefind profiles may be created for children by their parent or legal guardian. Only the authorised carer can create, edit, or delete a child's profile. We do not collect data directly from children. The profile information is only accessible during time-limited scan sessions.
We use the following third-party services to operate Safefind:
Supabase — database and authentication
Twilio — SMS and WhatsApp alert delivery
SendGrid — email alert delivery
Stripe / PayPal — payment processing (we never see or store your card details)
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can delete profiles and all associated data at any time from your dashboard. To request a full data export or account deletion, contact us at the email address below.
Profile data is retained for as long as your account is active. Scan event data is retained for 12 months for analytics purposes, after which it is automatically deleted. When you delete a profile, all associated data (medical records, contacts, scan history) is permanently removed.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was most recently revised.
